Curtiss 34L XP-5 Hawk

07/20/2026. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The P-5 Hawk (Model 34L) was similar to the P-1A except that it was fitted with a side-mounted turbo-supercharger on the 435 hp Curtiss D-12F twelve-cylinder liquid-cooled V-engine (military designation V-1150) for improved altitude performance. Service ceiling was 31,900 ft (9,723 m) compared to the 21,350-ft (6,507 m) absolute ceiling of the P-1A. Further development was curtailed by adoption of the larger V-1570 Conqueror engine for Army Hawks.
